iPad mini 2 render and specs leak
More iPad mini 2 specs and renders have leaked on a Dutch website, showing off a retina display
A new set of specs for the iPad mini 2 has appeared online, alongside a render of the mini tablet.
According to Mobi Leaks, the iPad mini 2 will feature a 7.9-inch screen with retina display resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels (a ppi of 324 pixels).
The iPad mini 2 will also purportedly run on an Apple A6X processor, although a conflicting argument in the source says:
"The processor of the iPad Mini 2 is the Apple A6X, who also was fitted on the iPad 4. But according to our tipster is still not fixed. Since Apple is engaged in the production of the A7 chip, there is a possibility that this chipset is provided on the new iPad Mini."
On the back of the device, you'll find an 8-megapixel camera and 2-megapixel camera on the front.
The iPad mini 2 will be available in capacities of 16, 32 and 64GB varieties and in terms of the build, the iPad Mini 2 will be 7.5mm thick.
The render leaked on the website looks identical to the original iPad Mini, but shows an edge-to-edge screen.
Beneath the screen, there's the Apple homescreen button we've all come to love. There's no sign of any fingerprint sensor as is rumored for the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6.
These predictions aren't too far off from previous speculation that the iPad mini 2 would keep the same form factor as the original iPad mini, but it is likely to have a much better retina display, with a dual-core A6X processor, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE and multiple storage options.
In terms of release date, Mobi Leaks doesn't mention exactly when we can expect it to launch, but rumors so far suggest we'll see it toward the end of the year.
Earlier today, we reported that Walmart has decreased the price of the original iPad mini, suggesting an iPad mini 2 may launch sooner than we had originally thought.
