We compare the rumored specs of two of the year's most highly anticipated devices

Google’s Nexus 5 release is expected to be a few short months away and the same can be said for Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 5S, but what can we expect of the two devices? To get an idea, and perhaps to see where our money might be wisest spent, we’re taking a look at the rumored specification for both smartphones.

Power

The iPhone 5S is rumored to feature an A7 quad-core processor and will almost certainly play host to 1GB RAM, making it fairly run of the mill in the guts stakes. One area in which Apple may push boundaries is in storage, by giving the device a 128GB option – not that many people will be willing to splash out on one if there’s a cheaper, 16GB option available.

The Nexus 5 is set to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 Pro, which would give the device a 2.3GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU. We’re expecting a moderate bump-up with the device’s memory, with 3GB RAM mooted, and we’re also fairly sure that the device will come with the usual 16 and 32GB storage options without SD card support – sadly.

Winner – Google Nexus 5

Screen

The Nexus 5 is looking odds-on to feature a 5.2-inch, 1920 x 1080 OLED screen, but we’re unsure what else to expect, save for the usual pin-sharp visuals and a scratch-proof coating.

Apple’s next-gen iPhone is looking likely to feature the same 4-inch retina screen size as the iPhone 5, but the display will reportedly feature Sharp’s IGZO (Indium gallium zinc oxide) technology, which uses far less power than other, more conventional screens, and is also considerably thinner.

Winner – Apple iPhone 5S

Camera

Google’s next Nexus will apparently feature an overhauled camera with a new, higher performance lens, but we’re unsure at this stage what sort of pixel count the thing will offer. Early rumors pointed to a camera that had been tweaked by Nikon, but there hasn’t been much else on that subject, so we’re leaving this category very much in the "don’t know" pile.

The iPhone 5S is rumored to feature a 13-megapixel camera and the aforementioned will likely feature some natty software enhancements, as is Apple’s way. We may also see the device get an updated FaceTime camera too, with a 2-megapixel rumored.

Winner – Draw
