We show you how to factory reset the Google Nexus S to clear all data and restore its original settings

The Google Nexus S is highly customizable and you have been hard at work tweaking it to your liking, but now the fun is over and you want to return it to its factory settings again.

Here, we show you how to hard reset the Google Nexus S with step by step instructions.

Please note that all data will be deleted from the Google Nexus S as a result of this procedure. This process may or may not delete data stored on the microSD card. We recommend backing up all of your personal data before proceeding.

First, try this:

  1. From the main home screen, tap menu
  2. Tap Settings, then Privacy
  3. Tap Factory data reset
  4. Tap Reset phone
  5. Enter your password if required, then tap Erase everything to confirm

If that doesn't work, or if your phone is frozen:

  1. Turn the power off. If your Nexus S is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  2. Hold the Volume Down button
  3. Press and release the Power button
  4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  6. Press and release the Power button
  7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

All data including third-party applications will be deleted from the Google Nexus S. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

Instructions are wrong; step 2 should be "Volume up", not "Volume down". You then need to confirm on the android-with-exclamation-point screen by holding down power, then clicking volume up. Or, better yet, just find another guide.
