CES 2013: Huawei booth tour
Huawei showed off its gigantic Mate, the sleek Ascend D2 and more at CES 2013
Huawei may have actually won CES 2013 when it comes to smartphones, as it showed off a variety of devices which caught out eyes. Take a look at its booth from the CES 2013 floor.
Huawei is really pushing the boundaries when it comes to "phablets," as the Ascend Mate sports a massive 6.1-inch screen. It's seriously a very, very large phone. You can check out our hands-on time with the Ascend Mate here and I've included a picture of the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD on top of it. Keep in mind that the Motorola device has a healthy-sized 4.7-inch screen.
The Ascend D2 probably didn't get as much hype as the Mate but it looks to be a great smartphone. It has a large 5-inch 1080p screen, a 3,000mAh battery, is waterproof, dust proof and it has a 13-megapixel camera. Huaweil was trying to showcase that camera at its booth and it set up a variety of products to take pictures of. I thought the end pictures turned out to be quite fantastic.
Huawei also had its first Windows Phone 8 handset on display, as the Ascend W1 was also around to play with. In our hands-on time with the Ascend W1, we were a bit disappointed because it was a generic looking and feel device but it's definitely not too shabby.
The new Huawei devices attracted most of our attention but the company also showed off some of its other Ascend devices and touted its 4G LTE capabilities. Huawei has made great strides with the quality of its devices over the last few years, so expect it to continue to be a big name at future shows.
