The new HTC Rhyme kind of insults the ladies
HTC officially announces the Rhyme - a cute phone with mediocre specs designed for women
HTC has unveiled the Rhyme (formerly the HTC Bliss) - an Android 2.3 phone that clearly has women in mind.
The problem is that HTC's vision of a phone for women is kind of insulting.
First off, the specs are kind of underwhelming: a 1GHz single-core processor, 3.7-inch WVGA display, 4GB of internal storage, a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front-facing cam, and the latest version of HTC Sense slapped on top of that piece of Gingerbread.
No 4G compatibility of course - because women are apparently too concerned with style to care about performance.
That having been said, the real kicker is all of the gimmicky extras.
As TechCrunch points out, the Rhyme also includes a charm that's designed to hang out of a purse and glow's magenta when you're recieving a call. There's also a Bluetooth accessory you can pick up in a color that matches your purple-ish phone.
On the plus side, it does come with what appears to be a nice little charging station with speakers for better sound quality.
The HTC Rhyme will be available on Verizon starting September 29th for $199.99 on contract (headset, dock and charm included).
