The wait for the elusive Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Google Nexus Prime might soon be over

Just hours after a purported video of Android Ice Cream Sandwich leaked, Samsung has started sending out invites for a special Samsung/Google event that’s being held on October 11 at 11:30 AM in San Diego. The topic isn’t listed, but the invitation says we’ll see “what’s new from Android”.

While nothing is concrete yet on precisely what Sammy will be offering, we've seen previous events debut phones, tablets, and even Samsung services, reports TechCrunch. Seeing as the event is a Google/Samsung show, it makes sense that the next Google phone - the Nexus Prime - could indeed launch.

The Prime, which has been rumored for months now, but is still unconfirmed, is expected to be the first device running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. While nothing is for certain, ICS is said to unify the Gingerbread OS with Honeycomb. Definitely a huge task, to say the least.

Engadget notes that spec-wise, the Prime is thought to sport a dual-core processor, 4.5″ or 4.65″ screen, and 4G LTE. It is also rumored to be launching exclusively on Verizon.

Aside from the Nexus Prime, the event may also feature other Samsung-made devices. A Galaxy S III is certainly possible.

For now though, it appears we will just have to wait and see.
