CEO Meg Whitman has confirmed that HP will decide the fate of webOS inside the next two weeks

HP CEO Meg Whitman has finally given herself a timeline for deciding the fate of the webOS platform.

Speaking with French paper Le Figaro, Whitman went on the record stating that a decision would come down sometime in the next two weeks, Slashgear reports.

If you recall, HP decided to pull the plug on the ill-fated webOS-powered TouchPads and handsets back in August, and Whitman has been taking her sweet time deciding what to do next.

This depite rumors that HP could sell the webOS platform for "hundreds of millions of dollars". That's a far cry from the $1.2 billion the company sunk into webOS when it aquired Palm back in 2010, but it seems pretty clear at this point that webOS isn't going to compete with Apple or Android and HP should probably try and recoup whatever cash they can.

It's also important to point out that HP has shifted its attention to Windows 8 in the tablet game, so it doesn't seem likely that HP will try and develop for both platforms.

Pehaps the delay has something to do with the negotiation of a possible sale.
