Facebook mobile introduces new notification settings

Your smartphone is a hub for irritating alerts, and that’s especially true if you’re running social networking apps like Facebook. If you haven’t bothered to tweak your privacy settings, chances are you’re still getting notifications every time you have a new message or comment waiting for you on your Facebook page. Thankfully, the company recently updated its notification controls to make this whole process less time consuming.

Instead of having to go through the hassle of changing everything in your settings, Facebook has now made it possible to do everything in one place. When you receive an alert, simply pull it up in the little globe icon, hover over the alert and tap the ‘x’ to turn it off. Doing this will turn off all notifications for that particular app, group, or post that it’s tied to. Not only does this save you time, but it allows for maximum customization; you only receive alerts that you decide are important.

Facebook’s new app alert controls are still in testing, so no official word on when those will become available. But the rest of these changes to the network’s mobile platform are slated to roll out sometime tonight, according to TechCrunch.
