Sprint's LTE network hits Kansas City first
Kansas City gets a taste of Sprint's LTE network before its official launch date, report says
Forget for a minute that Sprint isn't officially slated to launch its LTE network until this Sunday, July 15 — it's apparently already up and running in Kansas City (of all places). There's no confirmation on whether this is actually happening, but as The Verge points out, Sprint's 4G Rollout Updates suggest that it is indeed the case.
The update page states, “every complete and signed off LTE site in the market is now live.” Insider Sprint sources have purportedly confirmed that it's true, but the easiest way to find out would be for anyone with a recently-released, Sprint LTE-compatible device to give it a test run. If the network is in fact live in Kansas City, folks with those up-to-date devices should be able to access it.
Sprint's LTE market was slated to hit five major markets on July 15, and Kansas City was most certainly on that list. The other four are Atlanta, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. It remains uncertain whether the network has gone live early in those other areas as well, but we'll keep you posted. If you happen to be in of these areas and own a Sprint LTE-enabled smartphone, give it a shot and let us know.
