Essential apps for a stress-free Thanksgiving
Here are some iPhone and Android apps to help you host a terrific Turkey Day
Seriously, did anyone know how to properly fix up a turkey before the dawn of cooking apps? Obviously not; folks have been screwing up the bird for generations. But no more of that -- you have no excuses now. Though if you do somehow manage to still totally screw up the single most important dinner of the year, we've got apps for that too (read: location-based services to help you find the nearest open pub).
DIY digital invitations
Before you plan the perfect holiday party, you'll need to know exactly who you plan to invite (though you probably don't have much of a choice on this one: mothers-in-law are mandatory, but you can probably leave your creepy uncle to his own devices). Create your guest list and then send out your own crafty invites with Red Stamp Cards for iOS and Greeting Card Maker for Android.
Distract the kids
Executing the ideal Thanksgiving dinner requires your undivided attention; something that's pretty much impossible to get when you've got little ones running about. When you need to distract your precious brood, try the aptly themed Thanksgiving Coloring Book for iOS or Pet Shop Story: Thanksgiving for Android. And if that doesn't do the trick, we have four awesome apps for toddlers here.
Take the edge off
You know, you've worked hard for this day, and it's far from over. You still have a ton of work to do in the damn kitchen. While the oven is preheating, grab your cocktail shaker and mix up a little something to take the edge off. Drinks and Cocktails for iPhone and SOS Cocktail for Android both offer up a slew of drink recipes that are sure to spike your mood. You can also check out our list of iPhone and Android apps for cocktail connoisseurs.
Set a festive tablescape
We're sad to report that nobody on the planet has figured out how to master the art of napkin folding in an app. On the plus side, How to set the table for Android is pretty comprehensive in all things table etiquette, and has included over 40 different ways to fold your linens (probably you should skip those paper ones you saved up from your countless morning runs to Starbucks). As for your holiday decor, Pinterest's mobile apps can provide inspiration for every taste and occasion (you can find an endless amount of Thanksgiving recipes here too).
Cook the perfect bird
Recipe Search for Android isn't exactly a holiday app, but with a database of over 150,000 different recipes, you're sure to find your dream side dish, along with a few different ways to stuff that obligatory turkey. Allrecipes Dinner Spinner app is another favorite on our list. And if you still haven't found exactly what you're looking for, we have an entire list of cooking apps that are sure to help you craft a downright delicious Thanksgiving dinner.
Make a getaway
You've done your part. You've slaved over a hot oven, greeted everyone with a smile and kept a polite grin during all of your mother-in-law's backhanded compliments. Leave the dishes for your better half and make a quick escape while you can. Foursquare and Yelp's mobile apps are your best bets for finding the nearest open pub (sprint and you may be able to make it back just in time for pumpkin pie).
If you didn't have the chance to escape your dear loved ones, just go ahead and get 'em all drunk. Bust out the plastic cups, the bargain vodka and the painstakingly sweet mixers and you're good to go. 101 Drinking Games for Android and Drinking Games for iPhone can help make it all the more exciting.
Well, hopefully it all ranked slightly somewhere above the day from hell. But even if everything went exactly as planned (kudos to you!), you're still gonna need to take a serious break, especially since you've got some serious shopping to do in mere hours (hello, Black Friday sales). We suggest chilling out with a hot cup of tea while listening to Nature Sounds Relax and Sleep for Android or Relaxing Sounds of Nature Lite for iPhone.
Gear up for Black Friday
Whether you're planning to curl up and score some sweet deals straight from your sofa or you've got loftier plans (door busters, anyone?), our Black Friday 2012 app guide will make it all a little less painful.
