CES 2013: AT&T announces Pantech Discover
Pantech's Discover hits AT&T on Jan. 11 for just $50. Check out these specs
AT&T announced that it will soon begin selling Pantech's Discover on Monday during CES 2013. The new, 1.5GHz dual-core handset will be available through the wireless provider beginning Jan. 11 for a very budget-friendly $50 on contract.
Now, before you scoff at the price and the fact that Pantech is known in the U.S. for being a low-brow brand, let's take a quick look at the Discover's specs. Pantech's Discover features a 4.8-inch, HD screen, 16GB of internal storage and a 2100 mAh battery and a 12.6 megapixel rear-facing camera (and the standard 2 megapixels for the front). It runs on Android, but the specific version remains unclear.
The affordable new Discover also features AT&T's DriveMode app, which hopes to help put an end to texting and driving. With DriveMode, you can set up a personalized message that is automatically sent as a reply to any texts you receive while driving at least 25mph. It's not unlike your typical "out of the office" auto-reply, and it also works with emails and calls.
“AT&T is dedicated to educating customers about the dangers of texting while driving and providing real solutions to help prevent the behavior. With DriveMode pre-loaded on the Discover, we hope that users will be less likely to text and drive," Senior Vice President of Devices for AT&T Jeff Bradley said in a release.
