We round up the best free and paid-for iPad games for January including Temple Run 2, Angry Birds Star Wars and Space and Minecraft

Temple Run 2 (Free)

If you enjoyed the original Temple Run game, the second installation has even more challenges for you to take on.

With new graphics, environments, obstacles, power-ups, achievements, powers and a bigger monkey, it's even harder than ever to stay on track.

Featuring zip lines, cliffs, mines and forests, you'll have to force yourself to stay on your seat.

Minecraft - Pocket Edition ($6.99)

This retro gaming favourite, where you have to build blocks to solve challenges, discover new places and adventures with a whole lot of obstacles on the way.

New features in the latest update of the game includes swords, bows, TNT, chests, skeletons, spiders and lots more.

Just watch out for the exploding iconic Creepers!

Angry Birds Star Wars HD ($2.99)

If you're a fan on Angry Birds and you just can't get enough of Star Wars, Rovio's newest game blends these two worlds into one super-game for iPad.

Featuring many of the weapons and tools available to Luke Skywalker & co, you can make sure your battle against the evil pigtroopers ends victoriously.

Angry Birds Rio HD (Free)

If you'd rather play Angry Birds free, Angry Birds Rio HD offers just that. So you won't get the lightsabers and pigtroopers, but you will get lots of colourful birds to shoot at pigs in even more colourful surroundings.

The story of Angry birds Rio follows the adventures of the Rio film, where the Angry Birds are captured, but escape and then set out to rescue their friends, Blu and Jewel.

Starring the Mighty Eagle, which can be used to obliterate everything, it's a real addictive game.

Subway Surfers (Free)

Ever wanted to ride the subway from outside rather than inside? Check out Subway Surfers, where you can ride on top of subway trains, duck, dive and jump on a hoverboard.

The aim of the game? Avoid the inspector who's out to get you.

Subway Surfers is a super-fast paced game that does become addictive - especially when you're battling it out against your friends!
