The best smartphone from every carrier right now
Not willing to settle for less? Here are the best smartphones you can get
So you want to know what the best smartphone is from your particular carrier. Or maybe you're ready to ditch your carrier and are wondering what you should go with. The best smartphone, really, is the one that suits you and your needs. It's tough to take an objective look, but it's certainly easy to be subjective when you've been in this business long enough, so here are my picks for the best smartphone being offered by every carrier right now.
1. iPhone 5 for AT&T
For AT&T customers, I'd have to go with the iPhone 5. Hands down. A very close second is the HTC One X+, but when it comes to having LTE and good battery life, the iPhone 5 is the best smartphone for AT&T. Its camera is excellent, iOS has access to a wealth of fantastic apps -- most good apps tend to hit the iPhone first, too -- and when it comes to accessories, the iPhone has them by the truck load.
2. Samsung Galaxy S3 for T-Mobile
The best smartphone for T-Mobile is a tough toss up between the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Nexus 4. On one hand, the Nexus 4 is priced just right for what you're getting, and it has the latest and greatest Android software. But on the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has excellent software and little tricks from Samsung, like those NFC TecTile things, and its battery life is much greater than the Nexus 4. I also happen to like the display on the Samsung Galaxy S3 a little more, too. It's not as sharp as the Nexus 4, but the display colors are richer and look better in sunlight.
3. HTC DROID DNA for Verizon
Why didn't I pick the iPhone 5 just like I did for AT&T? Well, the HTC DROID DNA gets best smartphone for Verizon because of its large, gorgeous display, good battery life and excellent 4G LTE performance. Aside from all the brilliance of Android, it really is just a nice device with a nice camera. The screen, as I said in my review of the DROID DNA, is really what makes this a killer phone. Watching movies, shooting videos, editing photos and all that good stuff is just so much easier on big, bright, sharp screens, and the HTC DROID DNA has it.
4. iPhone 5 for Sprint
Poor Sprint hasn't made much of a splash in the news recently, but it is still a great carrier with excellent plans and prices. I'm going with the iPhone 5 because it's one of a handful of smartphones that will support Sprint's growing LTE network. The iPhone 5 is also a great smartphone on its own. If you want the best smartphone for Sprint, I say go with the iPhone 5. If you're looking for a second opinion, I'd easily give it to the Samsung Galaxy S3, which will also support Sprint's LTE network.
There you have it. Choosing the best smartphone isn't easy, but if you're plunking down the cash and committing to a phone for two years, picking the best smartphone will serve you nicely throughout your contract. So many of these phones are so good that it really gets harder to pick and choose between them, but with little differences like displays, ecosystem updates and app choices, we can still nitpick every now and then.
