iPhone 5 jailbreak wildly popular, 7 million devices in four days
The iPhone 5 and iPad jailbreak has been more popular than expected
We talked of an iPhone 5 jailbreak, or iOS 6.1 jailbreak, coming just a few days ago. And in four days, seven million devices have been jailbroken, thanks to the hackers called "evad3rs." This makes the evad3rs jailbreak tool the most popular iPhone jailbreak download ever.
Jay Freeman, who created the Cydia app store for jailbroken iPhones, says that 5.15 million iPhones, 1.35 million iPads and 400,000 iPod touches were jailbroken using the evad3rs jailbreak tool this week.
One would think that an iPhone 5 jailbreak really wouldn't be necesary anymore, given the maturity and flexibility of iOS 6.1. But one would be wrong. Apparently there are still plenty of apps and features out there that users want -- features that aren't yet available on iOS 6.1. One would also imagine that these popular apps and features that can be downloaded from Cydia won't ever make it to the iPhone.
Like we've warned before, you're voiding your warranty and getting yourself into all kinds of questionable water if you jailbreak your iPhone 5 or iPad. Perhaps it's far safer than I'm making it out to be --I've jailbroken my devices in the past -- but I really need to exercise this warning because I don't want to be held liable or accused of anything if anyone is inspired by this article to go jailbreaking an iPhone 5 and ends up with a dud.
But if you know what you're doing, or are willing to take the risks to enjoy an additional bit of freedom, you can download the jailbreak tool and give it a shot. Luckily, jailbreaking an iPhone 5, iPad or iPod touch these days is far easier than it was just a few years ago. Just a few clicks and you should be set.
