Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 mini launch slated for April?
Samsung is rumored to release two new Galaxy S4 smartphones this spring
By now you've heard that Samsung is expected to release not one, but two Galaxy S4 smartphones this year. Before we jump into details here, please keep in mind that we're all riding the endless waves of rumors, as the Korean smartphone maker has yet to make any official announcements about its upcoming Android-based devices. That said, let's carry on.
The two smartphones in question are the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S4 mini. Currently, all signs point to both handsets launching together, and maybe even with some kind of Galaxy Watch (which seems entirely pointless ... but we'll save that rant for another post). First we heard the two new phones would launch in March -- but Thursday that tone shifted to April. According to tech blog Geeky Gadgets, Samsung will announce its Galaxy S4 during its "Unpacked" event in Moscow on March 15.
Here's what the folks over at Geeky Gadgets are saying:
"We have previously thought that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini would be launched at a later date than the Samsung Galaxy S4, but we have just received some information from a source who has confirmed that Samsung will announce the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S4 Mini at their Samsung Unpacked event next month.
The source is someone close to a major UK retailer, who has been reliable in the past, they previously told us that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would go on sale some time between the 15th and 22nd of April in the UK, these dates are still to be confirmed by Samsung."
We're taking it with a grain of salt until we hear more, but if it is true, that would likely mean a summer release date for us here in the states. But enough about dates, let's talk about possible specs for the phone. Samsung's Galaxy S4 should sport a beefy, five-inch, 440ppi Super AMOLED display and Samsung's 1.8GHz Exynos 5 Octa eight-core chip, which supposedly helps boost speed and extend battery-life. There's also talk of 5G Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and FM Radio.
