Windows Phone owners get a long overdue update to their Twitter app

Twitter announced an update to its Windows Phone app on Tuesday. The much-needed makeover, according to the Twitter Blog, will make it easier for Windows Phone owners to share and discover new content. And there's proof that it'll be effective too, as it updates key features that have already been present in Twitter's apps for both Android and iOS. Still, better late than never -- and to be totally fair, the blog announcement even notes that this Windows Phone update is meant to bring the app up to speed with its counterparts.

So here's the lowdown on what you can now expect. A new navigation structure offers four tabs, including one for Home, Connect, Discover and Me. The first lets you view tweets from folks that you follow. Tapping a tweet will offer an expand mode, in which you can view additional content like video, images or story summaries (if there's a link attached). Meanwhile, the Connect tab lets you see your mentions, recent followers and retweets.

The Discover option is pretty self-explanatory, allowing you to view trends and search new content. And lastly, the Me tab keeps all of your DMs in one tidy place and lets you view lists, favorites and profile management. On top of that, Twitter's update for Windows Phone also features the live tiles so you can manage specific features straight from your start screen and have quicker access. The update is available from the Windows Phone Store.
