iPad 5, iPad mini 2 could launch in April
Rumors suggest the next generation of iPads could land as early as next month
Apple could release the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 as early as next month, according to the latest report from a very reliable source.
The folks at iMore have this rumor and it has been extremely reliable in the past. For example, it previously nailed the design of the iPad mini and that the iPhone 5 would have the Lightning connector.
There are not exquisite details about the iPad 5 but the report suggests we may get a slight redesign. When you consider that we just got a new model in October, I'd expect the iPad 5 to feature a new processor, boosted RAM and not much more. Some rumored leaked iPad 5 cases show a slimmer body and a smaller, overall footprint.
As for the iPad mini 2, many of us have been hoping and expecting a retina display but the report isn't quite sure about this. Citing concerns about battery life and thickness, iMore said, "Retina for the iPad mini, however, still doesn't sound imminent."
What would this mean for the iPad mini 2 then? Well, it looks like we would get an internal specs bump. The original iPad mini has essentially the same internals as an iPad 2, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the iPad mini 2 have the same processing power as the Retina Display iPad (without the Retina, of course).
It's getting more difficult to peg down Apple to a routine schedule because it has shifted its release date of its iPad and iPhone over the last few years. With that said, it does appear as if it's moving to a process where it has a new, high-quality device to sell every couple of months. That's why a new iPad introduction within the next month would make sense.
Whenever it is released, the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 are still the most anticipated tablets of the year. While Samsung and Amazon have made a slight dent in the tablet market, Apple still appears to be on top.
