iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 launch could happen as soon as next month. iPhone 5S launch rumored for August

Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S and iPad 5 are both expected to launch soon. It's likely that we'll see the iPad 5 first, as the latest rumors suggest that Apple's next full-size tablet will launch during the same event as the iPad mini 2. Supposedly, that's all going down sometime in April, but no mention of a specific date. Apple is also planning to introduce the next version of its iPhone, which many believe will be a a budget-friendly device -- not to be confused with the iPhone 5S, which is rumored to launch in August.

The iPhone 5S is expected to be available in several different color options. Both the 5S and the cheaper iPhone would likely sport a similar design, with the 5S packing an updated processor, along with a few other key specs. We heard this morning that Apple could introduce wireless charging abilities with the iPhone 5S, but that seems unlikely, given that 2013 is thought to be more of an "S" year for the Cupertino, Calif. company.

We've also heard that Apple could use Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC in a cheaper version of its iPhone. Not only would this allow the company to shift away from Samsung's foundries, but it could also significantly help cut down on costs. While perhaps obvious to some, it should also be noted that a budget-friendly iPhone would not allow for 4G LTE capabilities, and instead would run on 3G.

As for the iPad 5, we're not expecting many significnt changes, but we could end up seeing a slightly different design (possibly more compact and and lighter). The newest full-size tablet will likely feature a new processor and boosted RAM. We would be surprised to see much more than that, given that it was only Oct. 2012 that Apple released another new iPad. Meanwhile, the iPad mini 2 has long been expected to sport a retina display (as the current version is lacking there), but it may be an unrealistic desire; recent reports regarding and iPad mini 2 retina have cited concerns about battery life and thickness.
