Apple iPad to become available on April 3, pre-orders start March 12
The Wi-Fi version of Apple's iPad will launch on April 3; 3G version to follow in late April
The April 3rd launch applies to the Wi-Fi version of the iPad, which will be available in three models: a 16GB version for $499, a 32GB version for $599 and a 64GB version for $699.
The 3G-enabled version, compatible with AT&T's 3G networks, will follow in late April. Apple's 3G iPad is also available in three builds: 16GB for $629, 32GB for $729 and 64GB for $829.
While no contract is required, Apple will require $14.99 per month (250MB of data) or $29.99 ("unlimited data") per month from customers wishing to utilize 3G connectivity.
While many view the iPad as an answer without a question, Apple is still expected to quickly climb to the top of the still miniscule consumer tablet market.
With an entry-level price point that comes in at half of early analyst expectations, the iPad is accessible to a much wider range of consumers than initially expected.
