BlackBerry Torch 2 specs are revealed, showing a possible upgrade on processor

Going for the triple play today, BGR has just posted its 3rd BlackBerry related leak of the day, a picture and specs of the unannounced BlackBerry Torch 2.

Analysts had claimed the launch of the Torch a failure, while consumers were puzzled by the specs and why they weren’t more competitive with the current markets smartphones. Enter the Torch 2. According to the report, the new Torch is set to have a 1.2GHz processor, while the first Torch has a 600MHz processor.

Spec rundown:

  • 1.2GHz processor
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Tri-band HSPA 14.4Mbps
  • 3.2-inch VGA 640 x 480 capacitive display
  • 8GB built-in memory
  • 512MB RAM
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • GPS
  • NFC
  • 5-megapixel camera with flash
  • Magnetometer
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity sensor
  • 1300 mAh battery
  • BlackBerry OS 6.1
  • OpenGL ES
  • 14.6mm thin

The Torch 2 is said to look near identical to the original Torch with the only exception being a matte silver finish. The report claims the Torch 2 is scheduled to launch in Q3 on AT&T. One has to wonder why RIM didn’t just implement these specs on the original Torch, the technology was available, and yet a year later RIM will be supposedly releasing an updated version of what the original Torch should have been.
