BlackBerry App World 2.1 now available for download, brings in-app purchasing
BlackBerry App World 2.1 is available starting today, adding new billing capabilities for developers to take advantage of
BlackBerry App World 2.1, according to RIM in its morning press release. The new update brings with it some key elements needed in order to make App World a viable competitor for developers.
App World 2.1 now allows vendors to offer in-app services, such as additional levels for games or additional content depending on the type of application. The in-app payment system, BlackBerry Payment Service, requires developers to implement the service using the Payment Service SDK. Once the vendor has implemented the Payment Service into their respective application, goods and services are then added via the BlackBerry App World Vendor Portal.
The Apple App Store already has a very successful in-app purchase system currently in place and Google has stated its intent on the release of in-app purchases very soon.
The App World 2.1 update will be fully rolled out over the course of the rest of the day.
