Sony Xperia 6.4-inch device is in the works, maybe
Rumor has it Sony is prepping an even bigger "phablet" to reveal at MWC 2013
The latest from the rumor mill suggests Sony is prepping a gigantic 6.44-inch device to further compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note lineup. What the hell we'll ever need a phone that big for ... I'm just really not sure. Then again, nobody really thought the five-plus inch Note would have a place in the market, and they were immediately proved wrong. Still, 6.44 inches is enormous by smartphone standards ... and a touch too small for the average tablet.
The news (if you can really call it that) comes from Chinese forum Digi-wo, which revealed an image of the rumored 6.44-inch display, supposedly designed for a new phablet. The display in question shows Sony's branding. No specific details were revealed, aside from a 1080p display. If this a real thing, chances are we'll see it revealed during MWC 2013 in Barcelona (Feb. 25-28). But who will actually buy it?
A 6.4-inch Xperia tablet is a bit of a head scratcher, but it still seems more likely than the rumored Apple phablet we heard about on Monday. Rumors pointed to the iPhone maker prepping a 4.8-inch phablet to compete with Samsung's Note. This device is being referred to as the iPhone Math ... yep.
If we can rely on any truth for the moment, it's that we're sure to another wave of rumors before the end of this quarter -- and probably even more so with MWC coming up.
